Wednesday Obsessions: Getaways and the Latest Fashion Notes

Yo Deb readers, welcome to the fifth installment of our weekly newsflash for all things up-and-coming, ‘Wednesday Obsessions’. We are excited to bring you the latest info on people, places and things being discussed around the world and around the world wide web. Start following us to receive an email each week when a new W.O. post is published!

-Bolinas, CA: fly into San Francisco and Bolinas is 30 mi north; stay at the Inn Above Tide, about 10 mi east of Bolinas in Marin County; for a midday snack or light meal stop into the Lunch Box in Stinson Beach; for a delicious evening meal try the Barefoot Café in Fairfax; for the indoor crew, don’t miss the Bolinas Museum, with attractive exhibits as well as a history of the city; for the outdoorsy crew, take the Palomarin Trailhead to Alamere Falls, which deposits fresh water into the Pacific Ocean (a sight to see!). Check back here for upcoming openings of SCOUT retailers in the Bay area.

-Waitsfield, VT: fly into Burlington, then drive 40 mi southeast; stay at the Round Barn Farm B&B for incredible views and the perfect piece of property around which visitors can wander; the Waitsfield Farmer’s Market will have just opened (May 19th), so be sure to stop over for locally-sourced food and drinks; eat at the original ‘weekends-only’ dining spot for American Flatbread pizzas (sold at Whole Foods and other gourmet food stores around the country) on the Lareau Farm; perfect in-season activities in the Mad River Valley (home to towns Waitsfield and Warren) include canoeing, kayaking and rafting or hiking, and the Mad River Valley web site has everything to do and explore in Waitsfield-Warren. Find SCOUT at RK Miles in Manchester, VT.

-Austin, TX: fly into Austin-Bergstrom airport, 5 mi from downtown Austin (business district); stay at the Heywood Hotel, a boutique hotel within walking distance from a ton of great food, art and shopping stops; be sure to make time for a lunch at Franklin Barbecue, the ultimate venue for eating well and eating BIG (as most things are done in Texas); restaurant Fabi & Rosi has a unique bistro feel with contemporary décor and serving tasty European fare; visit the Zilker Botanical Garden for 30 acres of lush flowers, herbs, waterfalls and ponds; visit the Wally Workman Gallery in Austin’s Art District (cool fact: the gallery is part of a 100 year-old historic house on W. 6th Street). In addition to these TX retailers, you can also find SCOUT at the Lake Austin Spa Resort and Personally Yours.

-Port Townsend, WA: fly into Seattle-Tacoma and the town is shortly over an hour away; stay at the Washington Hotel, a boutique hotel in the center of town with stunning views of the surrounding area; for great food and outside dining with gorgeous views eat at Sirens Pub; for an outstanding selection of coffee and wine (and exceptional small plates), visit The UnderTown; absolutely do something on the water, whether that’s sea kayaking or sailing – Port Townshend is the perfect place for sight-seeing and doing on the water; for dry land activities, the art exhibited in Port Townsend is beautiful and worth a trip to any of the local galleries to view – we recommend Simon Mace Gallery on Taylor Street and the Northwind Arts Center Showcase Gallery on Jefferson Street. Check back here for updates on new SCOUT retailers in the Seattle area!

-Scottsdale, AZ: fly into Phoenix and stay at the Saguaro, a brightly decorated hotel you just may want to move into, it's that cool; don’t miss a dining experience at FnB on downtown Stetson Drive, full of comfort food that is grown and sourced locally, in many cases; nearby and perfect for breakfast is The Breakfast Club, at the corner of Scottsdale and Stetson Roads; for the fashion-minded, Scottsdale offers a ton of options with its many shopping centers. Landmarks include: Scottsdale Fashion SquareKierland Commons, and the Biltmore Fashion Park; for a more catered selection of goods stop by the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art’s SMoCA Store.
