"Two of the most important influences on the 2011-2012 fall/winter season are the decades of the 70s and 80s: perhaps the most controversial period in recent fashion history, the 70s and 80s brought with them unusual scales, combinations, and colors to the fashion arena. It's important to remember that the disco era was captivating the nightlife during this time, which in turn trickled down into fashion; additionally, menswear influences were evolving to accommodate women in the workforce; fashion, therefore, was trying its best to interpret these. (*A note on the hues exhibited in this era: use jewel tones sparingly – they are often too harsh for most skin tones, but you can still have fun with them by wearing one jewel tone piece on the bottom.) This week we’ve picked five looks that we feel have transitioned well to the contemporary fashion runways, looks that every fashionista should consider for the upcoming season. Today we're featuring shine & metallics: from high-luster to burnished, metallics can range from silver to brass to golden tones with a little rose gold thrown into the mix… a little shine goes a long way."
METALLIC ACCESSORIES: from left to right, Louis Vuitton's Monogram Rock Shawl is the perfect addition to a minimalist look; Miu Miu's Glitter Pumps will be perfect from fall into winter into early spring, with basic black, a pop of color, or a contrasting metallic accent; SCOUT's Goodie Bag in French Twist Gold is understated glamour in an easy to hold carryall; D&G's Gold and Black Lame Evening Bag will be your go-to when you want to dress up a simpler look.
SHINY SEPARATES: from left to right, Diane von Furstenberg's Simca shorts will look fab with lacey tights, high heels, and a crisp white button-down; dream of Marchesa's Draped Lame Gown, which would look especially cool with leopard-printed pumps peeking out; let SCOUT's inexpensive Goodie Bag in Priscilla Paisley bring you back to earth; Elizabeth and James' Lauren Metallic Blouse can be tucked into a black pencil skirt for work, and tucked out with dark denim for a night out; have fun with a slinky, sparkly dress like Lanvin's V-Neck Wrap Dress.
