  • Capitol Fun in the Nation's Capital: Goodie Bag in the Convention Center

WHERE TO STAY & EAT: stay at the Helix, a Kimpton Hotel (below left), a fun & hip atmosphere where you can yet relax and sip coffee or tea in your downtime; eat at a variety of cuisine options, we love ZolaCorduroy, and Matchbox!

WHAT TO DO & SEE: take along Scout's Goodie Bag and be sure to check out two Convention Center keepers, Chinatown and the International Spy Museum (above right)... Yo Deb readers & DC tourists, there are tons of other museums in this area to  visit, so do a little research and have a lineup for you and your family planned!

  • Capitol Fun in the Nation's Capital: Bagette on the Cathedral Close

WHERE TO STAY & EAT: stay at the Georgetown Inn (below left) for nearby comfort & convenience; about 10 blocks up from your hotel on main neighborhood street Wisconsin Avenue, eat at Cafe Deluxe, Cactus Cantina, 2 Amy's Pizza, or Something Sweet, all located in the neighborhood of Cleveland Park... further into this 'hood, dine at Ripple and Ardeo + Bardeo, both on Connecticut Avenue.

WHAT TO SEE & DO: the main attraction around the Cathedral Close is the namesake building itself, the Washington National Cathedral (above right)... take a walk around this Gothic creation, or a garden tour outside on its grounds; then, take along Scout's Bagette bag and visit the new outposts of some of our favorite Cathedral Close/Cleveland Park 'icons', namely Sullivan's Toy Store (which recently relocated to 4200 Wisconsin Ave.), the Kellogg Collection (which recently relocated to 5215 Wisconsin Ave.), and Dalton Brody, at 3412 Idaho Ave.; nearby the restaurant Ripple, also on Connecticut Avenue is some great DC shopping... one store that comes to mind for cool & contemporary knick-knacks & gifts is Wake Up Little Suzie; also don't miss the National Zoo a couple blocks away!

  • Weekend Trips with the Deano: Chicago & Mackinac Island

CHICAGO, STAY, EAT & SLEEP: in Chicago, stay at Kimpton Hotel Group's Hotel Burnham; eat at Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba in Lincoln Park for excellent Tapas, and enjoy coffee and a snack at City Grounds Coffee; for the ultimate window-shopping experience (the 'Madison Avenue' of Chicago), walk along Michigan Avenue!

MACKINAC ISLAND, EAT, STAY & SLEEP: on beautiful Mackinac Island in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, stay at the iconic Grand Hotel; take a short walk to Woods Restaurant for a cozy meal with great service; as there are no cars allowed on the Island, enjoy the freedom of walking along Main Street (and don't miss one fudge shop!)

SHOPPING: visit the Blues Jean Bar in Lincoln Park, a Chicago neighborhood with a vibe comparable to the Village in NYC; take your Prep Stripe Blue Blazer Deano and stop in for a designer sample sale at Thread Lounge.

  • Weekend Trips with the Deano: LA & Santa Monica

LA, STAY (SANTA MONICA), EAT & SEE: for our first Santa Monica hotel pick, stay at the Shangri-La for the ultimate lap of luxury and attentive hotel service; dine at Blue Plate Oysterette, which serves fresh fish (and breakfast all day!), finish a lunch at Blue Plate with Cora's Coffee; walk down the Santa Monica Pier for a fab view of the Pacific and the nearby roller coaster...

SANTA MONICA, STAY, EAT & SEE: for a hip yet 'homey' vibe also in Santa Monica, try a stay at Shutters on the Beach; for dinner in a cozier setting, eat at newest hot spot Gjelina, then have a post-meal espresso at Intelligentsia Coffee; stroll along the Venice Beach boardwalk (and don't miss a stare at Muscle Beach!)

SHOPPING: when we think quintessential 'LA' shopping, Fred Segal has and will stand the test of the ever-changing times, as LA fashion goes... grab your Deano in Priscilla Paisley and stock up on big or small home and tabletop finds at Bountiful Home on Abbot Kinney Road; if you don't want to have top brave SoCal traffic, walk from your hotel over to the new luxury mall Santa Monica Place.

  • Weekend Trips with the Deano: Boston & Nantucket

BOSTON, STAY, EAT & SEE: stay at the Hotel Nine Zero for your hip city digs; dine at 29 Newbury, and don't miss a long walk along Newbury Street, the be-all-to-end-all of shopping in Boston... tons of designer outposts pop up each season, so be sure to check out any new stores on this store runway!

NANTUCKET, STAY, EAT & SEE: stay at the White Elephant, a classically 'Nantucket' building set against a foreground of beach & boats; eat a casual breakfast feast at Black Eyed Susan's; or, if you want to go 'high-end', make a reservation at 21 Federal; for another great 'neighborhood' experience like Black Eyed Susan's, the nearby Sconset Cafe also fits the bill; be sure to stop into Vis-a-Vis to match your island style...

SHOPPING: trek down to the waterfront (with a guy in-tow, if you so choose), and you'll both find something cool at Louis Boston, which features a wide variety of effortlessly chic clothing & accessories; visit Eye of the Needle on Nantucket and toss newfound items into your Deano in Pink Lady (hint: they'll think you're a 'regular'!)
